Apple plans to launch the OS X 10.9 Mavericks OS X operating system at the end of October, an industry analyst said. The report by Apple-watching site 9to5Mac cited people with apparent knowledge of the company's plans. It had been widely reported Apple would launch the next version of its OS X operating system this month. Apple's only public statements have said Mavericks, which the company says will have hundreds of improvements over OS X 10.8, will be available in the fall. The new version of the operating system is expected to be released simultaneously with new generation Mac Pro desktops, iMacs and MacBook Pro computers. There had been speculation Apple would release OS X Mavericks and iOS 7, the company's mobile operating system, in September. The new OS X is expected to feature improved multiple-monitor support, faster Safari, Maps and iBooks apps, and a redesigned Calendar application.
