In San Francisco Monday, Apple announced a new line of MacBook Airs, an overhaul of the software that runs the iPhone, and a new streaming music service. Attendees at the Apple World Wide Developers Conference were also treated to a look at a revamped Mac Pro desktop powerhouse, which ditches its square aluminum tower for a black cylinder looking like some alternate head wear for Darth Vader. The new Mac Pro, with just 1/8th the volume of the existing metallic Pro tower, is a Mac "unlike any we've ever made," Phil Schiller, senior vice president of worldwide marketing, said. The Mac Pro will be assembled in the United States, he said. Apple also announced Mac OS 9, the first version of its computer operating system not named for a large cat; the company is instead looking to its California roots, naming the new OS Mavericks, after a famous California surfing site. The iOS software that runs Apple's iPhones, iPads and iPod Touches would see the biggest changes with version 7 since the iPhone's introduction in 2007, Apple head Tim Cook said, with a new look to its icons and its various screens. Finally, Apple unveiled its Internet radio service called iTunes Radio, a competitor to Pandora and Spotify the company said will personalize listeners' music based on what they've listened to and what they've purchased on iTunes.
