Renowned photo-sharing app Snapchat is making major changes to the Stories feed which would help users to create playlists of friends’ stories to watch, without the boring them in between.
According to Techcrunch, Auto-advance will be replaced with Story Playlist, a new feature that lets you tap the thumbnails next to multiple Stories you want to load, then watch them all back-to-back by hitting the big “play” button at the bottom.
This essentially formalizes an emergent behavior where users would scroll down tapping Stories to start them loading, then scroll through again to watch each, one at a time, once they’d loaded.
Snapchat’s growing popularity means that most people have friend lists that are spiralling out of control. Some days, watching every story in your feed might take up an amount of time equivalent to watching a feature film.
Eliminating auto-advance suggests that most people were already picking and choosing which stories they wanted to watch.
Snap will also now show you post-roll ads at the end of individual user stories, even if you haven’t added them to a playlist.
The updates are rolling out to some Android users today and all iOS and Android users soon.
