Amazon is working on several new gadgets including a smartphone featuring a screen that allows for 3-D images without glasses, sources told The Wall Street Journal. Two smartphones and an audio streaming device could soon join Amazon's line of Kindle Fire tablets as the company looks to expand its presence in the digital device arena, people familiar with Amazon's plans told the Journal. The 3D smartphone would use retina-tracking technology to make images on the screen appear to float above it like a hologram and appear three-dimensional at all angles, the sources said, and it may give users the ability navigate through content using just their eyes. There have also been reports of a television set-top box coming from Amazon for streaming movies and TV shows. Although the devices are said to be well along in development at Amazon's Lab126 facility in Cupertino, Calif., the sources cautioned some or all of them could be abandoned because of performance, financial or other concerns, the Journal said.
