The FIFA Interactive World Cup (FIWC) is a unique video game competition that unites football fans worldwide and offers competitors the chance to be crowned the virtual world champion in an official FIFA tournament. Along with the title comes the chance to be present at the prestigious FIFA Ballon d’Or and spend a night in the company of some of the world‘s brightest football stars. For the 2013 edition, the FIWC has been refined and improved based on feedback from our exuberant community. Let’s take a look at some of the main new features: Online format The FIWC online qualification system has been restructured into five divisions. All competitors automatically begin in Division 5. Gamers earn points for victories and draws and must accumulate enough points to win a title, advance to the next higher division or simply avoid relegation. The advancement and relegation of a participant from one division to another will be based on a round consisting of ten matches. Just like in real football, a player will be awarded 3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw and 0 for a loss. The higher the division you are in, the more difficult it becomes to earn promotion. For example, starting in Division 5, a player must obtain 9 points in a round (ten matches) in order to be promoted to Division 4. However, a player in Division 2 will need to gain 14 points in a round in order to qualify for Division 1. Divisional ranking In addition to the points system for divisional matches, ranking points will also be awarded for promotions, titles won and maintaining your place in a division (in addition to wins and draws). The higher the division you are in, the more points you will ultimately be awarded. You will need to perform well against the best in order to be the best! Relegation will result in a deduction of points, so consistency in the upper division is crucial. Winning the League Title in Division 1 will earn you the most points. The top two online players per season (six online season in total) will be granted seats in the Grand Final. A player will be able to view their points and those of other competitors by visiting the online leaderboard on FIFA.com/FIWC. Consistency is the key to success and advancement. The new format will ensure players compete against similar caliber players, so progress is always possible even if you are not in the top division. This helps both top players and newcomers remain competitive because they will only play against opponents with similar skill level. Season challenge Have you signed up for our Season 1 challenge?
