The United States congratulates the European Space Agency (ESA) on its successful landing of an unmanned spacecraft on Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko, State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said.
The Rosetta mission will help scientists learn more about the role comets might have played in the origin and evolution of our solar system, Psaki said in a statement released by the department, late on Wednesday.
"This is a great achievement for science and space exploration," she said. "The United States is proud of our NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) collaboration with ESA on this mission, a successful and historic example of international science cooperation and science diplomacy."
