Air and space defense troops have completed state tests of the Russian Okno space monitoring complex, which is located in Tajikistan, a Russian Defense Ministry official said.
Work is continuing on the Okno to prepare the system for operation as part of the main space surveillance center of the air and space defense troops’ command, spokesman Alexey Zolotukhin said.
The Okno (Window) complex is located near the city of Nurek, Tajikistan, at a height of 2,200 meters above sea level in mountains. The system is designed to automatically detect space objects at altitudes from 120 to 40,000 km.
New space monitoring systems will be set up in the Altai and Primorsky territories at first, and more than ten such complexes will be deployed in other Russian regions by 2018.
