The Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS) unveiled Monday the winners list of its Kuwait Prize and Scientific Production Prize of 2014.
In a press statement, KFAS said that the list comprised five winners of the Kuwait Prize and six winners of the Scientific Production Prize.
It identified the Kuwait Prize winners as: Lebanese-born American Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Gabriel Michael Rebeiz who won the prize in the field of Applied and Engineering Sciences, Palestinian Professor of Management Dr. Nidal Rashid Sabri and Kuwait Dr. Adel Mohammad Al-Adwani who shared the prize in the category of Economic and Social Sciences, Palestinian Arabic Language lecturer Dr. Mahdi Asaad Arar in the Arts and Letters category, and Lebanese philosophy Professor Nader El-Bizri in the Arabic and Islamic Scientific Heritage category.
As for the Scientific Production Prize, the winners were all Kuwaitis are were named as follows: Chemistry Professor Fakhreia Abdul Rahman Al Sagheer in the Physical Sciences and Mathematics category, Industrial Systems Management Engineering Professor Tariq Al-Dowaisan in the category of Engineering Sciences, Dr. Abdul Amir AL-Saffar of KFAS in the Biological Sciences category, Dr. Mai Dawood Al-Bader of Kuwaiti University in the Medical Sciences category, Professor of Geography Obaid Suror Al-Otaibi in the field of Social Sciences and Humanities, and Dr. Bader Alshamary in the Administration and Economics category.
The Kuwait Prize was launched in 1979 in fulfillment of KFAS's strategy to support scientific research and encourage scholars and researchers in Kuwait and all other Arab countries.
The Scientific Production Prize was established in response to an initiative of His Highness the Amir of Kuwait to honor distinguished Kuwaitis holding a doctorate degree in various fields of knowledge.
The two annual prizes are designed to recognize intellectual achievements that serve the interest of scientific advancement and support efforts to raise the standard of culture in various fields.
