The seventh international fair for Middle East inventions, currently ongoing here, affords Kuwaiti youth an apt platform to show off their acumen at coming up with useful inventions, said a Kuwaiti official on Friday.
In a press statement on the sideline of the fair, board chairman of the Kuwait Scientific Center Mijbil Al-Mutawa'a lavished praise on some of the nation's establishments and foundations for sponsoring of and contributing to this important scientific gala in Kuwait. Among them he mentioned the Scientific Center, the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences, and the Sabah Al-Ahmad Center for Creativity and Giftedness.
In a similar statement, representative of the GCC patent bureau, attending the fair, said the bureau, founded in the 1990s, has always been keen on participating in this science-based fair for inventors from the Arab world and beyond.
In this year's fair in Kuwait, the bureau will award 50,000 Saudi Riyals to three of the best GCC inventors, he said while noting that the bureau receives applications for patents routinely throughout the year, mainly from GCC young inventors.
A sample of inventions at the fair includes a device to measure the level of cholesterol in the blood by Saudi inventor Dr. Mohammad Al-Jamal. A robot that can clean solar panels used for generating electric power is the work of Qatari inventor Hassan Al-Mohammadi.
The female Bahraini inventor Zainab Al-Ansari has come up with a wheel chair for the disabled that is operable by voice commands.
Other useful inventions at the fair were the products of inventors from Egypt, Iraq, Palestine, and Tunisia. The fair started last Wednesday and ends today with the participation of 150 inventors from Arab and foreign countries, in addition to 21 from Kuwait.
