An Arab expatriate was arrested on Tuesday by the Electronic Investigation Department at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on charges of internet fraud. The suspect, S.M.H, who holds a western country's passport, was accused of abusing his position at a renowned Dubai electronics store to scan and take photos of customers' credit cards details with his mobile phone. He then used the information to buy expensive but lightweight electronics from his company's website. Major Saeed Al Hajiri, Head of the Information Technology Crime Department of Dubai Police, said that the incident was detected at the end of July through access to information that established a fraudulent pattern in S.M.H.'s internet usage. A team of specialists in electronic crime was formed in order to monitor the suspect's actions and catch him red-handed, Al Hajiri said. He added that after a process of diligent inquiries and investigations, the team was able to establish that the culprit used to make online purchases and have goods delivered by a well-known courier service provider in the UAE.
