Dependence on import technology in defense industry must be overcome

Russian President Vladimir Putin said the dependence on import technology  in the defense industry should be overcome.
"The Russian industry should produce different types of weapons. It is necessary to overcome the dependence on import of technology,” Putin said at a meeting at the Russian Defense Ministry on Friday.
“It is important not only to place orders at our enterprises and design bureaus but also to organize production, which will exceed foreign analogues,” he said.
The total amount of the state defense order increased by 1.5 times in 2014 as compared with last year, Putin said.
Over 4,500 types of weaponry and hardware have been provided to troops. Three Yars strategic missile systems took up duty. Seven strategic bombers were upgraded, he said.
Putin called for carrying out all tasks next year within the state defense order.
