Kuwait's Crescent Sighting Authority is to convene at 7:30 pm on Saturday, July 30, to watch for the crescent of the new lunar month of Ramadan, the Muslim month of fasting and prayer. A statement issued yesterday by the authority, which comes under the control of Ministry of Justice, said that the authority incorporates Deputy Premier and Minister of Justice and Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Dr Mohammad Al-Afasi, Justice Undersecretary Abdulaziz Al-Majid, and assistant undersecretaries at the ministry. The group's co-director is the head of the Court of Appeals Chief Justice Rashed Al-Sharrah, whilst other members include the Deputy Chairman of the Court of Cassations Chief Justice Yousef Al-Mutawa, and Court of Cassations Deputy Chairman Chief Justice Ishaq Al-Kandari. The statement said that the ministry encourages anyone who sights the crescent to come forward and give official testimony to this effect before the authority. The ministry also used the occasion to extend its best wishes to the Kuwaiti leadership and people on the advent of the holy month.
