Samsung Electronics Co. said Tuesday it plans to mass-produce its new 46-inch transparent liquid crystal display (LCD) panels starting in late January in a bid to tap into the fast emerging market in earnest this year. The world's largest LCD supplier by shipments said the production of the 46-inch panel comes after it successfully launched its 22-inch model last year. Once production begins on the larger LCD, Samsung will have two transparent LCD panels in its product line-up. The company said the transparent LCD market is forecast to grow to be worth 33 trillion won (US$28.8 billion) in 2020, up from 1 trillion won in 2015, citing data from a display market researcher. Samsung Electronics combined its display panel business with its semiconductor operations in 2011.
