Former US Vice President Al Gore blames corporate interests for the damage done to democracy in the country, saying it is time for an ‘Occupy Democracy’ movement to fix the US political system. Gore made the remarks during a conversation with the US web entrepreneur, Sean Parker, at a gathering of technology experts in Austin, Texas on Monday. "Our democracy has been hacked," he said, criticizing the effects of special corporate interests on the US political system. Gore called for the creation and use of digital tools and social media to "change the democratic conversation." He also urged the crowd to take action to mend a no-longer-functional US government. The former vice president added that the influence of money over politics had risen to the point that money had turned into a proxy for a vote.
