Forty two people, including 37 Chinese from China's mainland and Taiwan, were taken on four-day remand by Bangladesh's anti-crime elite force Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Thursday, police said. Investigation officer of Uttara police station Mamunur Rahman told Xinhua by phone Thursday night that RAB has taken all the 42 persons on remand for further investigation. RAB arrested the foreigners over a month ago from a house at Uttara residential district with plenty of illegal VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) equipment. Later, police arrested the house owner and four other Bangladeshis for involvement in the illegal trade. The arrested foreigners included seven women, who entered the country with tourist visas. The VoIP business without license is illegal in Bangladesh. According to the existing law, if found guilty in trial, illegal use of VoIP equipment will face a punishment of 10 years in jail or a fine of 300 crore taka or both.
