SV3 can analyse, process and transmit data
Liquid Robotics, the team behind the record for the longest distance travelled by a robot, has unveiled a new model of its sea faring computer.
The Wave Glider SV3 is
a self powered data centre. It will be of particular use to oil and gas companies interested in mapping the ocean floor. It is also being used for naval operations.
Cnet reports that the SV3 is powered through wave and solar technology, so is capable of self propulsion for months at a time. The glider carries a range of sensors capable of gathering and processing large amounts of information.
Multiple users can operate the SV3, instructing it to gather information at the same time as other requests.
Scientists hope that the technology will help unveil previously unmapped areas of ocean floor.
