Souad Abdelrahim, the head of the Islamist Ennahda list in Tunis, confirmed that there are some negotiations within the party regarding a possibility of appointing her as the head of the National assembly, as partial official results show that ‘Ennahda’ party has won more than 40% of the seats. Approving such a move will contribute to dispel the fears raised by the party’s opponents regarding the Islamic threat to the liberties and freedom of woman and will show the community that the Islamic party ‘Ennahda’ is not planning to restrict woman’s freedom. Souad is a moderate businesswoman, she doesn’t wear a veil, and she plays a great role in ‘Ennahda’ movement, especially as she strongly defends the rights of Islamists to take a part in the political life and participate in power to build a democratic society.
