Egyptian Parliament deputy, Dr. Amna Noseeir, stated that she strongly supports the proposal of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, who called for issuing a law prohibiting the undocumented divorce.
Nosseir said that this issue is demanded by many scholars and symbols of religion long ago, and she was one of those who demanding for legalizing of the idea of random divorce.
"This proposal will benefit inevitably many parties, led by the wife and children and the whole family, pointing that the oral divorce suggests that the issue is easy and effortless, and the existence of legislation that contains punitive provisions in this issue will contribute to rationalize and legalize it", Nosseir said in an interview with Al-Masry Al-Youm.
The President's proposal reflects his knowledge of the conditions of Egyptian society now, and the suffering that faces the women and Egyptian family from the consequences of this undocumented divorce, which spread in an unprecedented way, Nosseir said. The goals of the President are clear from this proposal, which are more interdependence between family members, keeping children's rights and not to displace them, keeping the build of marriage, as well as to maintain the rights of the wife, she added.
After asking her about how to translate it on reality, she said: " Religious Committee in the Parliament should adopt the proposal, and put it in a legal framework, especially as it includes a good number of Azharites.
"Committee members have to invite the representatives of concerned religious institutions such as Dar al-Ifta, the council of senior scholars, to discuss the proposal, to harmonize between the law and the Islamic Sharia, Nosseir noted.
