On the occasion of International Women's Day, Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashemi, Minister of State for International Cooperation, has said that respect for women is an inherent value in the UAE's fabric of society and culture, and empowerment of women is necessary for community development.
"We will continue the quest for the empowerment of women globally, across many communities, whilst understanding the different dynamics that define the status of women across cultural, social, legal, political and religious domains," Al Hashemi added.
The Minister of State for International Cooperation drew attention to the UAE Vision 2021 which fully supports the growing role of women in all facets of society whilst maintaining the respect for the customs and traditions of the UAE. She said, "This vision goes beyond the UAE's borders and is reflected in the state's contribution towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals which include gender equality and empowerment of all women and girls."
Al Hashemi noted, "It is encouraging to see the prominent role women and girls have accomplished in the development and progress of their communities, however, in spite of our collective efforts we still have a long way to go. Thus, supporting and implementing strategies to attain the sustainable development goals is vital, and the UAE will continue to advocate for women and girls to reach their utmost potential."
She also drew attention to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation's efforts in partnering with other UAE authorities, partner countries, and the private sector to continue to advocate for women's equality, by providing platforms for dialogue, information exchange, and the development of innovative solutions.
Ms. Al Hashemi congratulated all women and girls that continue to persevere despite challenges and difficulties faced, and called them as a source of inspiration for many. She also commended the efforts of humanitarian aid and development workers who continue to tirelessly strive to protect and empower women.
