The workshop will study the essential ways and means to improve the status and conditions of women in the OIC member states to enable them to participate effectively in the political, economic, cultural and social spheres, according to OIC.
It will evaluate the implementation of the OIC Plan of Action for the Advancement of Women (OPAAW), which was adopted in 2008, as well as the challenges faced in implementing OPAAW and how to move forward.
The workshop will also have special sessions on women’s role in maintaining peace and security in OIC member states, best practices for empowering women and role of women in the media.
The outcomes of the workshop will be submitted to the 6th Ministerial Conference on the Role of Women in the Development of OIC Member States, which will take place on 1-2 November 2016 in Istanbul, Turkey.
Participating in the workshop are national higher councils of women in OIC member states, relevant ministries, OIC institutions and regional and international institutions as well as international experts and academicians.
