The General Women’s Union has called for ideas on programmes that could benefit women’s lives.
The initiative is part of Emirati Women’s Day on August 28 and launched by Sheikha Fatima, Mother of the Nation and Chairwoman of the union.
Among the benefits planned is a discount card for Emirati women that would offer reduced rates on health services.
Noura Al Suwaidi, director general of the union, said the day would highlight and celebrate the role of women in volunteering and charity.
"We don’t want women to wait until August 28 to start charity initiatives and are asking the private and public sector to start now by pitching ideas," said Ahlam Al Lamki, director of the union.
"We want to encourage women to read and are working with different sectors to implement discount cards and have already been approached by health centres who are willing to offer discounts."
The union’s theme coincides with the Year of Giving.
"We want to highlight the role of women who have never been recognised before," Ms Al Lamki said.
"There are amazing examples of Emirati women who have dedicated their lives to volunteering and charity."
