Emirati artist Sheikha Alyazia bint Nahyan Al Nahyan is showing 18 fine art pieces at the Navidena Feria Internacional de las Culturas in Madrid, Spain.
Organised by the city's municipality, and opened by Manuela Carmena, Mayor of the Spanish capital, in the presence of Dr. Hessa Al Otaiba, UAE Ambassador to Spain, and other diplomatic officials.
75 other international diplomatic missions in Spain are also participating, ensuring a variety of cultural and artistic events and activities, devoting a large part of the proceeds to refugees in Spain.
The aim of the UAE presence at the exhibition comes out of the keenness of the wise leadership of the state to promote the exchange of cultural dialogue, create bridges of constructive dialogue between civilizations and to emphasise the importance of presenting a vivid picture of the cultural movement and cultural heritage in the UAE.
The Art Pavilion is displaying the fine art pieces by Sheikha Alyazia from three different collections, 'Exploration', 'Leading Labels' and 'Safe Trip'.
During the event, the documentary 'The Tainted Veil' is being publicly screened as well. This experimental documentary, produced by Sheikha Alyazia, portrays a mixture of opinions from around the world, taking a look through the eyes of the women who decide to wear the veil, or not. With historical context and leading specialists, the facts about the hijab are revealed.
'The Tainted Veil' won the Best Documentary Award at the Silk Road Film Festival in Ireland, the International Award of Excellence at Jakarta Film Festival in Indonesia, and the Official Finalist Award at the 2016 American Movie Awards.
In June last year, 'The Tainted Veil' was shown at a private screening in London hosted by the Hampstead Everyman cinema, and also at numerous international film festivals in California, New York, and Amsterdam, and took part in the "Gulf Tales" screenings organised by Doha Film Institute, and at the Dubai Film Festival. Most recently, the film was screened at the Arab Film Festival in San Francisco and at the Europe Orient Documentary Film Festival in Tangier, organised by the Moroccan Association for Media Studies and Documentaries.
