Sixty 60 beauty queens arrived in Luxor late on Sunday as part of their participation in Miss Eco Universe 2016, that kicked off on March 27 under the sponsorship of the Tourism Promotion Authority and the UN with the aim of promoting environmental awareness.
The beauty pageant, now in its second edition, aims at boosting Eco-tourism in Egypt.
The contest activities are taking place in the Egyptian governorates of Cairo, Alexandria, the Red Sea and Luxor.
Assistant director of Upper Egypt Tourism police Hosni Hussein said the beauty queens will remain in Luxor for three days to visit a number of archaeological sites on both the eastern and western banks, including Luxor Temple, Karnak Temple, the Valley of the Kings and Tutankhamun Temple, he added.
Around 60 beautiful environmental diplomats from all five continents will be taken on a tour to unfold the mysteries of Egypt, a nation full of history, colors and culture.
They will visit the pyramids, historic Alexandria, stunning Gouna Hurghada and beautiful Luxor.
In Cairo, the final of the contest will take place on April 15.
During their stay, not only the candidates will get to see the wonders of Egypt, but they will also participate in a series of environment related activities, such as cleaning up campaigns, cycling and participating in lectures.
The winner of Miss Eco 2016 will win a USD 10,000 cash prize and will receive sash and crown from the hands of Slovenia’s Patricia Peklar, the 2015 winner.
