Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in Qatar hosts here Wednesday a lecture titled 'Craft, design and social change in Latin America'.
Brazilian design curator, journalist and writer Adelia Borges based in Sao Paulo will present the lecture as part of VCU Qatar's annual Crossing Boundaries Lecture Series.
The lecture will focus on the collaboration between designers and artisans in Latin America, especially in Brazil, where this is a collective, large-scale and widespread movement. The collaboration is happening as a two-way road: designers teaching craftsmen, and craftsmen teaching designers.
Former director of Museu da Casa Brasileira, a Brazilian design and architecture museum, Borges has curated more than 40 exhibitions in seven countries and authored or co-authored more than 10 books.
The lecture, free and open to public, will be held at The Atrium at VCU Qatar 6pm onwards.
