President of Cairo University Gaber Nassar said Sunday that the fire that took place in the Science Faculty lab was caused by the explosion of an air conditioner due to high temperature.
In statements to MENA, Nassar said the fire was swiftly contained and damage was limited to the air conditioner's unit and a photocopier.
He also praised the staff of the administrative security of the building who rushed to the scene of the explosion and contained the fire in no time.
Nassar also said the university is currently working on establishing a water tank with 1,000 cubic meters capacity to be used in extinguishing any fire that might break out on campus.
