University of Bahrain - Chemical Engineering Department's students have presented their preliminary studies results they carried out for Bahrain Petroleum Company (BAPCO) targeted finding the optimal option for some development projects.Chemical Engineering Department's Prof. Dr. Al-Amin Al-kinsi explained, in the framework of the ongoing cooperation between the University of Bahrain (UoB) and industrial companies, Bapco required UoB to assign a number of the Chemical Engineering Dep's students to initiate a study on industrial problems and ideal options for development projects, within a future hypothetical project related to the development of the distillation unit at the refinery.BAPCO required the preliminary studies to be on ideal option for increasing the efficiency of heat generators in the unit, means of benefiting from thermal energy at the output of the unit, means of facing the effects of salt sediments and testing the internal structure of the distillation unit, he added.Five students have been assigned to carry out the preliminary studies, including Mohammed Al-Maliki, Abdullah Anwar, Mohammed Abid, Hussain Ali and Ali Al-Sheikh.Students Ali and Al-Sheikh recommended that the thermoelectric generators should be replaced to obtain higher efficiency and reduce fuel consumption, which is not the case in development opton, noting the replacement option will assist in recovering the cost of new generators in only four years.Student Al-Maliki underscored the importance of adding a unit to remove salts from the crude oil electrically, pointing out salts cause a lot of problems, such as sediments that transform to be acids affecting the equipment. Student Anwar recommended a heat exchange unit, that deals with the products of hot distillation, unit to be installed and to benefit from it in the next heating process.Student Abid recommended the development of the internal structure by replacing some of the plates to increase the efficiency of the distillation unit.
