The Higher Education Council has today decided to revoke the licence of the Delmon University of Science and Technology for failing to sign a declaration stating that all grades were authentic. The decision to shut the university was taken as Education Minister and HEC President Dr. Majid bin Ali Al-Nuaimi chaired the 33rd council meeting. The session was attended by Works Minister Essam bin Abdulla Khalaf, Labour Ministry Undersecretary Sabah Salim Al-Dosary, Bahrain University President Dr. Ibrahim Mohammed Janahi, Arabian Gulf University President Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Ouhali. HEC Secretary-General Dr. Riadh Yusuf Hamza, Health Ministry Assistant Undersecretary for Primary Care and Public Healthcare Dr. Mariam Adhbi Al-Jalahma, Dr. Ibrahim Jamal Al-Hashemi, Royal University for Women (RWU) President Dr. Mazi Juma and other officials and (HEC) general-secretariat specialists were also present. They all extended thanks to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa for issuing the law-decree reforming the council, as well as greetings marking the advent of the Eid Al-Adha. The panel has also decided to exceptionally accredit the certificates, already handed over the HEC general-secretariat, except the diplomas referred to the High Criminal Court. Two Delmon University officials are implicated in the forgery case, which was referred by the Public Prosecution to the court for trial. The HEC General-Secretariat had addressed a final ultimatum to the University regarding the importance of turning in the transcripts and degree certificates of those who graduated as well as those who are currently continuing their education in the University no later than Tuesday, September 24th. The council also ordered the university to immediately hand over the graduates' wall certificates, the students' reports and mark records and all other required documents, either the general secretariat through its representative, or submit them directly to concerned students. The university has also been ordered to return fees to registered students for the first term of the academic year 2013-2014. The HEC General-Secretary has been mandated to assist students who are still pursuing their studies and transfer them to other Government or private unities to enroll in the same academic specialties. The Delmon University of Science and Technology has also been ordered to hand over all records and documents to join other academic establishments and take into account the interest of the teaching staff and employees. The session approved the national strategy to develop higher education over the coming ten years in cooperation with a leading powerhuse. Other key issues also came under the spotlight
