The state Education Department has launched a five-year strategic plan called the "Smart Planning Enhances Education Dynamics" (SPEED) to boost educational excellence in the state. SPEED, which focuses on tackling seven challenges, was launched by the State Education Director Datuk Dr Muhiddin Yusin here today. Under SPEED, the department has set the target of achieving 80 per cent passes in the Ujian Penilaian Sekolah Rendah, 44.29 per cent in Penilaian Menengah Rendah, 100 per cent in Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia and 98 per cent in Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia examinations by 2016. He said that while SPEED was a strategic plan at the state level, schools and district education offices would be required to set up their respective strategic plans according to the SPEED. The seven challenges include boosting the performance of students in public examinations, strengthening education leadership, strengthening quality management, improving students' management and strengthening infrastructure development.
