Under the patronage of Higher Education Minister, Marwan Hamadeh, the Ministry of Higher Education marked, on Saturday, the National Day for Students with Learning Difficulties in a reception held at Monroe Hotel in Beirut, in collaboration with the Educational Center for Research and Development, the British Council and Scheld Center.
In his speech on the occasion, Hamadeh considered that "awareness of the Lebanese people has greatly improved in this respect."
He stressed on "the need to establish a directorate at the Education Ministry to re-assess the educational curriculum and focus on the cases of students with special needs."
Hamadeh pointed to the progress made in the field of examinations, where the Ministry is according special care and attention so that no injustice is inflicted upon students with disabilities.
He also disclosed that "a possible external support to the Ministry of Education this year will have a positive impact on education," thanking herein Britain "which always contributes to assisting Lebanon."
Hamadeh noted that "a large part of the extended loans and grants will be devoted to modern education that excludes no one."
In a word by Social Affairs Minister, Pierre Bou Assi, who was also present at the event, he considered that "dealing with children with special needs must be characterized by human depth," stressing on the importance of love and compassion in dealing with them.
Bou Assi emphasized that double effort must be exerted to implement the laws concerning people with special needs and to make the necessary amendments in this context.
He also referred to the cooperation between the Social Affairs and Education Ministries, which constitutes a successful model, while calling for "strengthening cooperation between all ministries to better serve citizens, especially those with disabilities."
