US adults are striving for five fruit and vegetables a day fewer times this year than last year, a Gallup Poll indicates. Americans' eating habits deteriorated in 2013, as fewer adults reported eating healthy all day in every month so far this year compared with the same months in 2012, Gallup said. Healthy eating in June, July, August and September declined by at least 3 percentage points compared with the same months in 2012. In most months this year, healthy eating was at its lowest in Gallup trends since 2008. Gallup and Healthways asked at least 500 U.S. adults each day about their eating habits as part of the Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index. The telephone survey of 150,600 adults, conducted as part of the Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index survey Jan. 1-Oct. 31, has a margin of error of 0.5 percentage points.
