Minister of Culture Hazwan al-Waz announced on Saturday that the number of students who took the 12th grade (baccalaureate) exams was 106,933 in the scientific branch and 161,720 in the literary branch.
The Minister was speaking to the reporters following the announcement of the exams’ results.
Of those, he said, 76,042 passed the scientific branch exams with a percentage of 70.18 compared to 75.55 in last session of 2013 .
In the literary branch, however, the percentage dropped to 49. 91 in comparison to the 65.63 % last year, with 80,710 students passing this year’s exams.
He also refereed to 1,529 students who took the Islamic Sharia Education exams, of whom 1,004 passed with a percentage of 65.66, marking a drop when compared to the 84.98 % of last year.
More students who count 27,391 took the exams of Women’s Vocational, Industrial Vocational and Trade Vocational high schools, according to the Minister, who put the number of those who passed the exams at 13,558.
He pointed out that the students who failed the exams can apply for the second session coming soon.
While congratulating the students who passed the exams and wishing those who failed good luck in the forthcoming session, the Minister hailed the high spirits, will and determination of both students and administrative and teaching cadres who have made the examination process a success despite challenges and fears posed by the terrorists’ incessant threats and attacks.
