A teacher at a secondary school in Sharurah has been accused of punching a student and breaking the boy’s nose.
The boy’s father reported the incident to police and the Minister of Education, and education chiefs have begun an inquiry, Al-Watan newspaper reported.
The alleged attack happened last Tuesday at Imam Al-Dhahabi Secondary School in Sharurah, where the boy is a first-year student. “My son did not commit a sin that deserves a strong punch by the teacher, leaving his nose broken and twisted,” said his father, Mohammed Mahdi Al-Hammami.
He was called to the school and took his son to hospital. “Doctors performed partial rhinoplasty surgery, and then I had to move him to Riyadh the next day to complete his treatment.”
The Director General of Education in Najran province, Dr. Mohsen Hakmi, ordered a committee to be formed to investigate the incident.
“There was a quarrel between the student and the teacher resulting in an assault by the teacher on the student, which led to a broken nose, according to a preliminary report,” a spokesman said. “The committee has started to investigate the case in the school and we will announce the results in due course.”
