Sheheryar Tariq, a 20-year-old Pakistani student was identified as the top Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) prize-winner for the December, 2016 exam session in the country.
Tariq, a 2014 Pakistan School Muscat alumnus, attained the highest score by a student in Oman in paper F8 out of F14. Tariq has so far completed nine out of 14 papers that are required for the ACCA.
“I’m planning on finishing off the ACCA, then I intend on getting a master’s degree in accounting and finance. When I opted for these subjects, I had an interest in them so that’s why I’m continuing with them. It links you to the practical world. You get to see the same problems in the real world reflected in the modules,” Tariq said.
Even when Tariq isn’t studying, he spends his free time along the lines of studying. “I like to surf the internet and learn about the new business and the trends they are following,” he said. Tariq’s family has been in Oman since December of 1999, and plans on continuing his studies in the country too.
Although the ACCA doesn’t disclose the number of students who took the exam, coming first in the entire country is no small feat. “You have to invest to get the best. Success isn’t handed to you, you have to earn it. You have to invest your efforts to gain,” Tariq said.
