Thirty-nine months after sustaining life-threatening injuries in a school bus accident, Jawad Habib, is ready to start his studies again.
Habib was one of the two students of Pakistan School Muscat who were critically injured when their school bus hit a vehicle belonging to Muscat Municipality at Qurum Heights Road on January 22, 2014. Three other students of the school were killed in the accident.
Speaking to Times of Oman, Jawad’s father, Habib-ul-Rehman, said, “He is improving gradually. So he has to start his education, as life has to go on. I was planning to send him to school from this year, but later I realised that he has not recovered fully. Also, PSM in Ruwi is far away from our home in Al Hail. So, I’m looking for a teacher who can help him to start his studies at home.”
Regarding the injury, Habib-ul-Rahman commented that although the brain swelling has subsided, his emotions, memory, and other functions have been seriously damaged.
“He is still nervous in front of others. We hope that things become normal very soon,” added Habib-ul-Rahman.
Jawad, a first grade student of PSM, was sitting in front when the school bus collided with a vehicle belonging to Muscat Municipality. Along with Jawad, two other students – Faizal and Habib – were also injured in the accident, while three others – Fareeha, Owais Nasser, and Syed Fahad Abdul Haq – died.
According to a PSM official, “It was the most tragic incident in the history of PSM, where we lost three students. Two injured students are still being treated because of severe cerebral injuries.”
Three years after the horrific incident that shook the nation, parents say that little has changed to improve school bus safety.
