A Finnish school project won an international education innovation award, it was reported Monday.
The World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE) named Finnish school project Me & My City as one of the six winners this year for providing a compelling, innovative solution to today's most pressing challenges in education.
Me & My City is a learning concept based on entrepreneurship, economy and society, designed by the Finnish Economic Information Office TAT for sixth-grade school children.
The project is a study module of a miniature city, where pupils can practice various professions of their choice, as well as participate in the micro-society as consumers and residents.
In 2014, around 70 percent of Finnish sixth-graders participated in the project, offering pupils an opportunity to experience working life, entrepreneurship and community activities.
The project has drawn increasing attention from abroad. South Africa, Britain and Sweden have shown interest, chief executive of the project Tomi Alakoski told Finnish media.
Established by the Qatar Foundation in 2009, WISE is a multi-sector platform for creative thinking, debate and purposeful action toward building the future of education.
Five other projects from Australia, Egypt, Peru, Jordan and India also won awards. The awards ceremony will be held from Nov. 4 to 6 in Doha, Qatar.
