Is it really possible to give children a life-changing experience in relation to World Book Day? Yes, we believe it is. We think it is possible to do something so dramatic that it persuades children to consider the importance and pleasure of reading, while at the same time promoting friendship and giving the children in your school one of the most memorable experiences of their primary school career. We do this by bringing actors from West End musicals to schools in the UK with their production of JUMP TO IT! – a programme that uses four books as part of the production. The books that are highlighted in the JUMP TO IT! production are: Mister Magnolia by Quentin Blake The Night Pirates by Peter Harris, with illustrations by Deborah Allwright Prince Cinders by Babette Cole The Hero of Little Street by Gregory Rogers. The result is a World Book Day that everyone (children, their parents, and staff) will remember for years to come. In fact the show inspires and involves children of all primary school ages both to become more involved in books and to take on board the themes of friendship and working together with those around them to overcome challenges. JUMP TO IT! is a positive story of how books can contribute to our personal development, a cautionary tale of becoming too involved in the digital world, and above all a wonderful celebration of friendship told in a way that appeals to all ages.
