A typhoon-triggered flood has trapped 395 students and teachers in southwest China's Yunnan Province, local authorities said Thursday.
Heavy rain brought on by typhoon Kalmaegi since Wednesday has submerged the first floor of a building at Babu Township Middle School, where the victims are trapped, according to the Malipo county government.
About 100 soldiers are on the scene trying to rescue the trapped pupils.
The water level of the nearby Babu River rose to 487.8 meters, 1.34 meters higher than the warning level.
Typhoon Kalmaegi has left at least seven people dead and one missing, causing huge economic losses after it came ashore in south China on Tuesday.
