President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan has ordered honouring of 150 grade 12 outstanding students nationwide. As per the directive a scholarship and AED20000 will be granted to each student. This was disclosed at a press conference held at Fairmont-Bab Al Bahr Hotel - Abu Dhabi by Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC). The press conference was attended by Ali Maihad Al-Suwaidi, Undersecretary of Ministry of Education, Mohammad Salem Al-Dhaheri, ADEC's Executive Director of School Operations, Dr. Abdullah Al-Maghrabi, Director of Studies and Research at Ministry of Presidential Affairs and a number of ADEC senior officials. H. H. Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Presidential Affairs and Deputy Chairman of Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) will attend the honouring ceremony of G12 top-achievers for the school year 2011-2012, scheduled to be held on Monday July 9, 2012 at the Emirates Palace Hotel. A number of 150 G12 Emirati and non-Emirati top students attending public schools and Institutes of Applied Technology who have achieved a minimum score of 98 per cent, as well as Emirati special needs students achieving a minimum of 95 per cent, one from each regional office, will be honored. Al-Dhaheri said that this new initiative emphasises the keenness of prudent leadership to promote and develop education in UAE. "The students will be granted AED 20000 as incentive award, in addition to a number of scholarships", he added. Al-Dhaheri pointed out that the continuous support of His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, Chairman of ADEC, and the keenness of Sheikh Mansour to encourage top students comes in line with the vision of the UAE leadership to provide the education sector in UAE with the necessary support. "Students have been selected based on a number of criteria identified by the honoring ceremony's organizing committee, on top of which is achieving minimum score of 98 per cent. Scientific and literary section students as well as IAT Students from all educational zones and regional offices across UAE will be honored", added Al-Dhaheri. Al-Dhaheri reiterated that this initiative would certainly promote academic excellence among students, consolidate the concepts of creativity in various educational institutions and provide students with the proper learning environment that would enable them to excel '&' become higher achievers. "The grant would contribute greatly to increasing the level of academic attainment and competitiveness among students to prove their merit to receive such an award, which will have a positive impact on learning outcomes at the UAE level", he added. "ADEC highly values this initiative which reflects the eagerness of UAE leadership to promote education and help our students compete globally and meet the highest international standards. The educational sector appreciates the kind gesture which will have a positive impact on the development of education throughout the country", concluded Al-Dhaheri.
