Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, the Chairperson of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF), visited Tuesday 'Taivallahti' school in the Finnish capital , Helsinki to get acquainted with the country's educational system. During the meeting, HH Sheikha Moza met with Finnish Minister of Education and sciences Jukka Gustafsson and the aforesaid school principal Mrs. Hanno Kisonin where a short film about the education system in Finland was presented. Then Her Highness Sheikha Moza toured the school classes and met with students and teachers where HH got an insight into the teaching mechanisms of different subjects ranging from arts, languages to Mathematics. The Finland education system is famous for encouraging team work and extra-curricular activities; gifted students are expected to help out the others rather than being moved to a gifted class. Finland's education system also seldom relies on tests and usually settles for verbal assessment. Teachers are given the freedom to decide on their teaching methods and textbooks, as long as the follow the general state curriculum guidelines. It is noted that the UN's listed Finland's educational system as joint first with Denmark, Australia and New Zealand back in 2008.
