Road safety education will be made a curriculum in secondary schools beginning next year after it was introduced in primary schools since 2007, said Transport Minister Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha. He said this was part of the government effort to educate the people to be more courteous on the road and at the same time reduce the number of road accidents. In April 2007, the Road Safety Department (RSD), in collaboration with the Education Ministry, had introduced road safety education which was absorbed into the Bahasa Melayu subject, beginning with 1,000 selected primary schools. Speaking to reporters after the ministry's 1MOT (1Ministry of Transport) assembly and the Aidilfitri gathering, here today, Kong said the ministry was concerned about the problem of road safety in the country after the 24th Ops Sikap showed an increase of 16.6 per cent of accident cases to 19,606 compared with 16,817 cases during the Aidilfitri last year.
