A Georgia school curriculum company says it has been getting threats over a lesson perceived as teaching Islamic practices. The row in the Cobb County school district began last week when a parent complained publicly about a "letter from Ahlima" included in a two-week segment on the Middle East in his child's class at Campbell Middle School, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported. In the letter, a fictitious 20-year-old Saudi woman talks about wearing the veil and of her upcoming polygamous marriage. The story spread quickly on the Internet and was taken up by Pamela Geller of New York, who operates the Atlas Shrugs blog and helped gin up opposition to the so-called Ground Zero Mosque. Geller accused the district of "shilling for jihad." InspirEd Educators reported Tuesday to Roswell police that the company had received "terroristic threats." In a statement Wednesday, the company said staffers had received threats and been discussed in a threatening way online. "It's important for kids to have sme empathy for other people in the world," a company official told the Marietta Daily Journal. "Some people think we're trying to teach their children to be Muslims, and that could not be more ridiculous."
