Former sport director at Canal+ and France Télévisions, Frédéric Chevit, 59, has been appointed International Coordinator of beIn Sport channels, Al-Jazeera’s sport affiliate channels in France. He will take up on 2 April and be charged to ensure liaison with the Doha-based parent company and the various office of Al Jazeera Sport worldwide. On the international market, Al Jazeera Sport’s ambitions are strong and the strategy will not focus on France only. Conceived as an international brand, beIn Sport is rather considered as a bridgehead in Europe and is called to set up into markets such as Spain, Italy and the UK. Outside the Middle East where Al Jazeera Sport already works, this new brand will be able to export worldwide, and maybe to the US. A few days ago, Al Jazeera bought the TV rights to the prestigious Spanish football league, La Liga, for the US.
