Eurosport has secured the rights to broadcast the US Open Tennis Grand Slam throughout 17 Asian markets live and in HD from 2013 through to 2016. The US Open agreement, brokered through the agency of IMG Media, sees the US Grand Slam on Eurosport for the next four years and broadcast in the 17 markets in which Eurosport is currently available throughout Asia. Eurosport will have the exclusive rights into Brunei, Cambodia, East Timor, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Laos, Macau, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, North Korea, South Korea, Taiwan, Vietnam and non-exclusive rights into Singapore, Thailand and the Philippines. Gordon Smith, United States Tennis Association (USTA) CEO and executive director, said: “Eurosport continues to raise the bar in its production and distribution of the US Open, one of the world’s most anticipated sporting events. By expanding our partnership with an industry leader, the USTA can bring its world-class event to millions of viewers and tennis fans in Asian markets.” Arjan Hoekstra, MD, Asia-Pacific at Eurosport added: "We are delighted to secure the rights to broadcast the US Open live and in its entirety across 17 markets in Asia. We are committed to bringing the best of tennis to as wide of an audience as possible throughout the region and look forward to working with the USTA in delivering the exemplary coverage for which Eurosport has become synonymous.” With this new contract, Eurosport Asia-Pacific has now expanded its tennis offering to fans, which in 2012 already includes over 500 hours of coverage of the WTA Season, covering all 21 WTA premier tournaments as well as the season ending WTA Championships in Istanbul from 23 to 28 October 2012.
