Chyler Leigh and David Harewood have joined the cast of Supergirl.
The 32-year-old actress and 49-year-old actor will portray Alexandra "Alex" Danvers and Hank Henshaw, respectively. Leigh and Harewood join Melissa Benoist as Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl, with Mehcad Brooks as James "Jimmy" Olsen and Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant.
Alex Danvers is foster sister to Kara Zor-El, who was taken in by the Danvers after escaping the destruction of the planet Krypton. The character was always fascinated by Kara's powers, and became a doctor after a lifelong obsession with science.
Hank Henshaw is a onetime CIA agent and current head of the Department of Extra-Normal Operations. In the DC Comics, he becomes supervillain Cyborg Superman after coming to blame Superman for an accident he, his wife and crew suffer in space.
CBS gave Supergirl a series commitment in September 2014, with Greg Berlanti and Allison Adler as co-writers and executive producers. The program will see Kara embrace and begin to use her powers while working with Jimmy Olsen for Cat Grant at media company CatCo.
Leigh is known for portraying Dr. Lexie Grey on ABC medical drama Grey's Anatomy, and currently stars as Cat Sullivan on NBC police procedural Taxi Brooklyn. Harewood is known for playing David Estes on Showtime series Homeland, and is attached to Tulip Fever with Christoph Waltz.
