AMC is celebrating the 30th anniversary of Back to the Future with an all-day marathon featuring screenings of the sci-fi/comedy blockbuster and its two sequels.
The small-screen homage to the trilogy is to kick off Sunday at 11 a.m. ET/PT.
Starring Michael J. Fox as Marty McFly and Christopher Lloyd as Dr. Emmett "Doc" Brown, the franchise starts when McFly is sent back in time to 1955 where he meets his future parents in high school and accidentally becomes his mother's romantic interest.
"Marty must repair the damage to history by causing his parents-to-be to fall in love, and with the help of eccentric scientist Doc Brown, he must find a way to return to 1985," a synopsis said.
The sequel follows McFly and Brown as they travel to 2015 to prevent McFly's future son from ending up in prison, while the third movie chronicles McFly's adventures in trying to rescue Brown after he gets trapped in 1885.
Universal Pictures Home Entertainment has announced plans to release on Blu-ray and DVD Oct. 20 the Back to the Future 30th Anniversary Trilogy, which will include all three movies plus a new bonus disc with more than two hours of content.
Back to the Future: The Complete Animated Series also will be released for the first time on DVD featuring all 26 episodes from the award-winning series and Back to the Future: The Complete Adventures will include all three movies, the complete animated series, a new bonus disc, a 64-page book and collectible light-up "Flux Capacitor" packaging.
