German pay-TV broadcaster sportdigital has begun transmitting live sports events on Facebook. The service can be accessed through the video player on the channel's site on the social network. The line-up comprises live matches from international football leagues for €1.99 per game, and highlights shows, for example from the Italian Serie A or the Dutch Eredivisie and the 'Goal Show', for €0.99 per episode. The video-on-demand (VOD) area contains recorded matches and other archive material. To pay for accessing the content, viewers have to enter their mobile phone number, and the payment is made through the mobile phone bill. A separate account or log-in are not required. The Facebook service (http://www.facebook.com/sportdigital) through which sportdigital wants to gain new viewers complements the distribution of the channel's programmes via cable, satellite, IPTV and web-TV.
