Apple previously blocked a marijuana-based app from the app store, but the company has now changed its position.
Massroots is a social network for marijuana users, and Apple claimed it couldn't be included in the app store because it went against their policy blocking apps that encourage drug use. Now, the company is partially changing the policy.
Massroots announced Friday in a blog post that Apple has decided users can download the app from the app store if they live in one of 23 states that have a medical marijuana law or have legalized marijuana. The users will have to be identified by a geolocation check to confirm they are in one of these states.
The change comes after cannabis advocates sent over 10,000 emails encouraging the company to change its mind.
