Throwback Thursday leads us to reminisce upon the first-ever YouTube video, "Me at the zoo," uploaded April 23, 2005 -- exactly 10 years ago today.
The 18-second clip features no cats but a calm Jawed Karim, YouTube co-founder, standing in front of an elephant exhibit discussing the animals' "really, really, really long trunks." Albeit boring, the classic video carries over 19 million views and over 100,000 comments.
YouTube boasts over 1 billion users worldwide; roughly 300 hours of video are uploaded to the site every minute. It is the medium which many celebrities, including singer Justin Bieber and comedian Bo Burnham, used to make it big in the mainstream. It also was one of the first Internet mediums to help media go "viral."
Speaking of viral, in 2007, Howard Davies-Carr uploaded a clip of his two little boys and named it "Charlie bit my finger-again!". The memorably cute video was too large to fit into an email to the boy's godfather in America, so Davies-Carr had to improvise, E News reports. Once uploaded, the public video was picked up by netizens all over the world who shared and shared until the video hit over a whopping 800 million view
