Rosie Perez set up Madonna and Tupac Shakur.
The 50-year-old television host took credit for the match Thursday on her daytime talk show, The View. Perez told her co-hosts Shakur was her date for the 1993 Soul Train Awards when Madonna caught the late rapper's eye.
Madonna revealed she and Shakur had a brief romance this week on The Howard Stern Show. The singer explained her 1994, expletive-laden appearance on Late Show with David Letterman by saying, "[Shakur] got me all riled up on life in general ... I was feeling very gangsta."
Shakur was engaged to fashion designer Kidada Jones when he was killed in a drive-by shooting at age 25 in September 1996. Madonna went on to date Carlos Leon from 1995 to 1997, and was married to actor Guy Ritchie from 2000 to 2008.
