Comedian Michael Che has been chosen to anchor Saturday Night Live's Weekend Update segment in the series upcoming season, joining fellow writer Colin Jost.
Che will replace Update co-host Cecily Strong, who took over the news segment for Seth Meyers, who left the show one year ago. Strong will remain on the show as a regular cast member.
Che joined SNL as a writer and per NBC's statement he's been named one of Rolling Stone's "50 Funniest People," Buzzfeed's "50 Hottest Men in Comedy" and Variety's "Top 10 Comics to Watch." The comedian is best known for his time on The Daily Show last summer and his appearances on David Letterman's Late Show.
The 40th season of SNL will premiere on Sept. 27 with first-time host Chris Pratt and musical guest Ariana Grande. Other notable changes in the upcoming season are the departures of cast members John Milhiser, Brooks Wheelan and Noël Wells.
